Somali Pirates Kill American Hostages from Captured Yacht

Tragic Outcome for US Crew Taken Hostage

As always, prepare yourselves prior to travels - pre-travel intelligence and risk assessment should be part of the process. Don't rely on others (the authorities) to provide services to you. Cruisers tend to be self-reliant in all other aspects, please be the same in regards your safety and security.

2011 Miami International Boat Show

The folks at GOST Global will be at the Miami Boat Show, Feb 17 - 21. Be sure to stop by, take a look at their product line. Some great pieces of equipment to help keep you and your loved ones secure during your cruises.

I will also be there with Millenium Group, stop by and say hi. Not sure exactly where we will be, but keep an eye out.

Followup on the Marshall Islands

Follow up, from Noonsite, on the previous post about theft from yachts occurring in the Marshall islands.

'Following a number of boardings of yachts in Majuro, the Mieco Beach Yacht Club has put in place a number of safety measures that will hopefully put a halt to any further problems of this nature.'

Marshall Islands update

From Noonsite - a few reports of theft and other crimes committed against cruisers.

Crime can happen anywhere. When you combine a growing population with limited opportunities, the options for (generally) younger males trends to more anti-social activities. Be aware of your surroundings and take many of the same precautions you would traveling to cities in the US or Europe.
